Pages You Need for a New Website

Congrats on wanting to launch your new website! You may be thinking, ok but what pages do I need to create for this new site? We have you covered.

The exact number of pages needed will vary depending on the complexity of your product and how much you need to educate your potential customer. Below we cover the essential pages that most eCommerce websites should have to be able to sell their product to site visitors.

Homepage: This is the main landing page of your website. This is the “www.youraddress.com” page. The home page gives an overview of your brand and the products you are selling. It should include a clear call-to-action and describe the product you are offering in the most simple terms. This page also describes why your product is better/different than the competition.

Product Pages: These pages showcase individual products with images, descriptions, pricing information, and product options such as size or color, if applicable. Product pages also contain additional information about how to use the product and the ingredients in the product. There can also be images of the product with customers/influencers and recommendations of other products that you the potential customer may be interested in.

Collection Pages: These pages group similar products together, making it easy for users to navigate through your offerings. Not all brands will have or need a collection page. If you have one category of the item you will not need a collections page.

Shopping Cart: This page displays how the items your user has added to their cart will appear. It allows customers to make changes before proceeding to checkout. You can also add upsell items to this page and incentives like an alert that tells the customer how close they are to free shipping.

Checkout: This is the page where customers enter their shipping and payment information to complete their purchases. If using a site like Shopify, this page’s customization will be limited by the Shopify plan you are on. At the time of writing, only Shopify Plus allows developers to highly customize these pages.

About Us: This page provides information about your company, its history, and its mission. This is a great place to connect with your potential customer about why the product was created, why it is different, and showcase the founder.

Contact Us: This page provides users with a way to contact your business, whether it's through email, phone, or a contact form. This information should also be in the footer of the entire site.

Terms and Conditions: This page outlines the legal terms and conditions for using your website and purchasing your products. This is a legal requirement.

Privacy Policy: This page explains how you collect, use, and protect users' personal information. Again, a legal requirement.

FAQs: This page answers commonly asked questions about your products like, “How long does shipping take?” or ” How best to use the product?”

Shipping & Returns: Aside from listing this information on the FAQs page and possibly the product pages, there should be a dedicated page with this information. Customers are looking for this type of information.

This outlines the basic pages for your website. You may also want dedicate pages for ingredients, your focus on sustainability, clinical research to back up any product claims, and a page dedicated to your blog. (A related aside: building out landing pages is also an important part of growing sales with your website but a topic for another blog post.)
