How to Drive Traffic to Your Website 101

So you have a website and now you need visitors. Not just any visitors, engaged visitors who want to buy ALL the things or services you have to sell. Customers, we need paying customers! That really is the ideal scenario. Sadly that doesn’t happen. Many people “turn on” their website and nothing happens. No one visits or if they do they bounce very quickly. So how do you build a community of customers who want to visit your website regularly??

There are many ways to drive traffic to your website. Here are a few high-level strategies you can consider:

  1. Search engine optimization (SEO): By optimizing your website for relevant keywords and phrases, you can improve your ranking in search engine results pages (SERPs) and attract more organic traffic. Some SEO techniques include optimizing your website's content, using relevant keywords in your website's metadata, and building high-quality backlinks from other websites. Ok, that sounds great but SEO takes time. You can’t rank #1 on Google overnight and some keywords you will never rank for. You have to take the time and strategically target long-tail keywords that you can rank for (and we can help!).

  2. Social media marketing: By promoting your website on social media platforms such as Meta/Facebook & Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok, you can reach a wider audience and drive traffic to your website. You can use social media to share updates about your business, promote your products and services, and engage with your followers. Beware that the reach of organic (not paid) social media posts continues to decline with an asterisk on TikTok but even TikTok is starting to limit its reach without paying.

  3. Email and SMS marketing: By building an email list and/or SMS testing list and sending newsletters and promotional emails to your subscribers, you can drive traffic to your website. You can use email marketing to provide value to your subscribers, such as by sharing helpful information or offering special deals and discounts. This is really powerful but you need to build the list. We can help with an email audit, building flows, creating templates, and working through a compelling pop-up newsletter offer when visitors land on your site.

  4. Pay-per-click (PPC) advertising: By using PPC platforms such as Google AdWords, you can create targeted ads that appear in search results and on other websites. When someone clicks on one of your ads, they are directed to your website. You only pay for the ad when someone clicks on it, hence the name "pay-per-click." Yep, this requires strategy or you will be mostly paying and not getting good traffic that wants to buy.

  5. Content marketing: By creating and sharing high-quality content on your website, you can attract traffic from search engines and social media platforms. You can use content marketing to provide value to your audience and establish your business as an authority in your industry. This is a real way to stand out and built a community.

By using a combination of these strategies, you can effectively drive traffic to your website and reach a wider audience. It's important to regularly track and analyze your website traffic to see what's working and make adjustments as needed. Need help?
